Entirely
a volunteer effort, the Geneva Beautification Committee consists
of organizations, businesses, families and individual volunteers that adopt and maintain
planting beds such as corner planting beds (known as "knuckles"),
containers and flower boxes located in Geneva's Central
Business District. As you walk by these areas, you'll see markers
indicating the adoptees. See
map.
Volunteers
plant flowers. They also clean, deadhead, weed and prune their areas during
the growing season. For the areas that are not irrigated, the City takes care of watering during the week and volunteers help on weekends. See a
schedule of activities.
Throughout the year, local businesses help support the Beautification Committee by either adopting a planting area, or donating supplies.
You too can help support Geneva's Beautification effort in one or more ways:
- Adopt
and maintain a planting bed.
- Help with preparation, planting and clean-up of beds on designated group days.
- Assist with various jobs, such as building flower boxes, delivering
flowers and clean up plant debris.
- Use
your talents in areas, such as fundraising, promotion, taking
photos and in the coordination of committee activities.
- Donate
supplies, plants and refreshments on group planting/clean-up days.
- Purchase
firewood in the fall and attend our annual Pasta for Posies Spaghetti Dinner in March. In addition, we accept donations throughout the year.
